LCVP is a Senior Cycle Programme of the Department of Education and Skills, designed to give a strong vocational dimension to the Leaving Certificate (established). The programme combines the virtues of academic study with a new and dynamic focus on self-directed learning, enterprise, work and the community.
Young people taking the LCVP have a unique opportunity to develop their interpersonal, vocational and technological skills through their study of the Link Modules. These skills are equally relevant to the needs of those preparing for further education, seeking employment or planning to start their own business. CAO points are awarded for results in Link Modules.
Subjects are offered at three levels in Irish and Maths and all other subjects may be studied at higher and ordinary level. All LCVP students study Link Modules at a common level.

*(an ab initio course in either language must be studied by all LCVP students, students not studying French as a core subject must complete an ab initio in Spanish to meet the programme requirements.)
There are two Link Modules to be studied:
- Preparation for the World of Work and Enterprise Education
- As well as providing a learning opportunity for valuable life skills points for entry to third level are awarded for the Link Modules.

A given subject will only be offered if there is sufficient demand and staff availability. The subject choices for LCVP students are subject to certain restrictions. Full details are given to students and parents in 3rd year when making choices for their senior cycle options.
